Honoring History, Serving Community: Fortifi Volunteers Help Preserve Legacy at Nathan Strong Park
At Fortifi Bank, community isn’t just something we support, it’s something we actively build, preserve, and celebrate. That’s why we were proud to lend a hand in a meaningful local effort this Month: restoring and rehabbing the Lucy Smith Morris Historical Marker at Nathan Strong Park in Berlin.
On a crisp and sunny day, Fortifi team members rolled up their sleeves to help sand and stain the marker’s frame, while the marker itself has been sent off to the State for restoration. Ensuring that the legacy of Lucy Smith Morris remains visible and honored for generations to come.
This marker holds special significance to us. In fact, Fortifi Bank, formerly 1st National Bank, funded the original erection of the Lucy Smith Morris historical marker back in 1998. To return more than two decades later and take part in its preservation was both a proud moment and a full-circle experience.
Morris, a pivotal figure in Wisconsin’s suffrage movement and a tireless advocate for women’s rights, is one of the many historical voices we believe deserve to be remembered. Her marker stands not only as a testament to her accomplishments, but also as an educational piece for future generations.
We’re grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a cause that connects past and present and we’re already looking forward to our next opportunity to serve.
Because at Fortifi Bank, honoring our history is one more way we invest in the future of our communities.
