Volunteer of the Month – Becky Meissner

This January, we are proud to recognize Becky as our Volunteer of the Month for her long-standing dedication to the Oshkosh Area Community Pantry. Becky has volunteered on and off for an incredible 16 years, continually stepping up wherever help is needed.

Becky’s journey with the Pantry began when she was asked to serve on the Finance Committee. Through that role, she quickly learned about the significant impact hunger has on the Oshkosh community and she felt compelled to do more. At the time, Becky was starting her own family, and once her children entered elementary school, she became even more aware of food insecurity among local students. She noticed that some children struggled to afford school lunches, and even more concerning, that for some kids, school meals were the only consistent food they received, leaving weekends especially difficult.

Determined to help, Becky began working closely with guidance counselors and principals at every low-income public school in Oshkosh. Together, they created backpack food programs and snack closets to ensure children had access to food outside of school hours. Although Becky no longer serves on the board or committees, her commitment has never wavered. She continues to volunteer and especially enjoys delivering food directly to schools.

“I love bringing the food into the schools and seeing the excitement on the kids’ faces,” Becky shares. “It’s not the kids’ fault they are hungry. So those that can help, should.”

Thank you, Becky, for your compassion, leadership, and unwavering commitment to fighting hunger in our community.
