The Story of Twigs Fine Goods

I worked as intern for a while for a graphic design studio, and I hated it! I said “I’m not going to do this with my life. I want do something, I want to start a business.” I wanted to do something. So, we opened TWiGS in 2013 with our fingers crossed.

We split the building and opened a hot dog stand in it to keep people here for lunch. We kept seeing them walk off of Water Street to eat, and they wouldn’t come back. We went from running one business to running four or five businesses with twelve employees.

Love is what motivates us. We love our jobs. We love what we do. We love the people that come in our shops. We love our customers, and we being able to spend time with our family for this time of our lives, with our young kids. We’re really living the dream.

To be able to make a living and love what you do? That’s worth more money than any other job. To see the faces of people and have relationships with them because we’re here. There’s nothing else that motivates like that.

We couldn’t have done it without Fortifi Bank. They’re people. You walk in there and you shake their hand. They listen to you. They take into consideration what you’re actually saying, not just the numbers on paper. It makes a big difference. Fortifi made all this happen, and we’re darn lucky to have them. We know that.

If you have any inkling that you want to do it – just do it. Put it all into it, and go for it. For us it turned out to be a dream. If you really love something, and your heart is in it – as long as you’ve got the drive, just do it. It may not work out the way you thought it would, but it will work out the way it should. Just keep moving forward.
