The Story of Madison Block & Stone

In 2007, I got a phone call from my son, Tyler. He had just gotten a phone call from Dave Mills asking, “Do you think your dad would be interested in buying Madison Block and Stone?” Tyler called me and asked me that and I thought about it. I figured there’s no way I could ever afford that. I got together with Dave Mills, and about 30 days later, we owned Madison Block and Stone. – Jayme Anderson (President of Capital Stone)

Madison Block and Stone is a stone supplier in the Madison area. We supply landscape and masonry materials. We do countertops as well. We’ve moved our countertop operation to Capital Stone, where we’re at right now. – Tyler Anderson (General Manager of Madison Block and Stone and Capital Stone)

You’re satisfied at the end of the day, helping customers, helping homeowners, having a finished product that they’re happy with. It becomes a personal touch to everything. It’s just satisfying. – Jayme Anderson

Jayme and I have been married for 36 years. Tyler and Molly are our two children. I think we’ve always been very close. I think this business brings us closer. We were both really on board with it from the very beginning. We were ready to go. We just didn’t think that it would happen. We are glad that things worked out and we’re thankful for the opportunity and to be able to do this in our lifetime. – Karen Anderson

The advice that I would give somebody, I think first of all you’ve got to put together a team that is going to work with you through some of the best times, through some of the worst times. You’ve got to have that partnership whether it’s with Fortifi Bank, Dave and Eric and these guys have all been down here and seen our operations work. You have people that you can trust. Put a good team together that will get behind you and stay there. – Jayme Anderson

I think anybody that wants to be self employed or start a business or buy a business, if they have the guts to work sun up to sun down and probably after, I’d say go for it. It takes a lot of work to grow and to find the right people to help you through your day-to-day operations. You’ve just got to be willing to work and be willing to teach people around you how to help you. You can’t do it all on your own and that’s what it’s all about I think. – Tyler Anderson

Fortifi has made it easy for us to bank. We started with Fortifi Bank three years ago. Through that process, Fortifi was down and visited with us numerous times. And it wasn’t just a bank trying to get our business. It was for those guys to understand what we do. – Jayme Anderson
